Program Note

This is a simple composition for solo trombone and piano that turned into a trombone quartet. The video shown is the trombone and piano along with the story narrative that it was originally based on. The story is of a boy who would go off to war but write letters to another one of his friends back home who had no one. The boy who did not get drafted lost his family due to a tragic event and his only family now was this boy who found him. After some time letters began to halt until he received one from the military...

The trombone quartet version is expanded and adapted for easier playing as a group and for a long performance. It passes around the melody line while also opening up new harmonies and motives. It is a heartwarming piece that will leave you feeling blessed to have someone around with you during Christmas.
